Equity & Inclusion

A Commitment to EDI

Thanks to the generosity of our community, almost $32,000 was raised towards the Psychology Inclusive Excellence (PIE) Student Fund during UBC Giving Day on April 8, 2026.

Through the PIE Fund, four Graduate Entrance Enhancement Awards, four Undergraduate Early Research Awards; and eight PSYC 240 Tuition Awards were awarded to psychology students in 2025-2026.

Our Indigenous Initiatives Committee was established to bring together faculty, students, and staff with an interest in developing and implementing new initiatives aligned with UBC’s Indigenous Strategic Plan. The committee organized a number of Celebrate INdigenous Culture and History (CINCH) events to explore Indigenous films, performances, activism, and literature.

In the 2025-2026 academic term, 40 graduate students provided mentorship to 154 undergraduate and post-baccalaureate students from under-recognized backgrounds as part of the Diversity Mentorship Program.

In summer 2025, UBC Psychology teamed up with seed2STEM to bring BC Indigenous high school students into our labs for an immersive research experience.

To celebrate Pride Month, the PrideMind Initiative hosted its annual Pride event for 2SLGBTQIA+ members of psychology community on June 18, 2026.

EDI in Practice

The Psychology EDI Working Groups set a number of 2025-2026 Goals and Actions to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion priorities in the department. These initiatives stem from the Psychology EDI Task Force report and recommendations.

The 2025-2026 EDI Annual Report captures our EDI Working Group’s goals, actions, accomplishments, plans for the future, and the results of the 2026 EDI Climate Survey.

On May 26, 2026, UBC Psychology’s EDI Committee held an EDI Strategic Plan Town Hall to update the psychology community on EDI initiatives and to share Psychology EDI Climate Survey results.
